Frequently Asked Questions
Taste the Place is a collection of food experiences showcasing the city’s rich cultural food scene. As part of Glasgow’s 850th celebratory programme, Taste the Place will shine a light on how Glasgow’s eateries help each of us communicate our identity, share our heritage, and create a sense of community and belonging.
Get inspired and work up an appetite by exploring the experiences on our downloadable maps. A limited number of physical maps are also available at participating venues. You can also check out the venues on our website and pick the ones you’d like to visit. It’s that simple!
Experiences are designed to be fully flexible allowing you to participate in a way that suits you. You can choose the venues you’d like to visit, your route, the time you go, and, of course, the dishes you’re eating!
Taste the Place experiences will be available from April to December 2025, marking the year of Glasgow’s 850th birthday. We hope this gives you ample time to explore and visit as many of the participating businesses as you wish, creating your own personalised eating tour of Glasgow. You don’t need to go to all the venues, but we encourage you to try as many as you can!
Taste the Place represents over 30 different cultures. By taking part, you’ll experience a variety of global flavours, including but not limited to Venezuelan, Italian, Korean, Sri Lankan, and Caribbean dishes. Each participating venue showcases the cultural diversity of Glasgow’s food scene.
We would always recommend making a reservation with our participating businesses to avoid disappointment. Many venues do not require a reservation but if you’re planning a visit with a large group, or at a busy time of the week it may be helpful to contact the venue in advance.
Each business has their own experience tips, sharing the owner’s heritage, spotlighting unmissable dishes and drinks, along with insider info on how the business made Glasgow its home.
You can find out more about each of our venues, unmissable dishes, and their special place in Glasgow’s community on our website here.
Most of the venues are easily accessible. For more information on sustainable transport options across the city, visit Glasgow City Council’s Public Transport guide, here.
For those who enjoy cycling, why not combine great cycling routes across the city with excellent food stops! If you’re looking for bike rental services, check out the city’s Nextbike scheme. Locations for hire stations can be found here. Visit Glasgow Cycle Map for further route inspiration.
Absolutely! Many of our featured locations offer vegetarian and vegan options. Check the venues' experience tips or ask the venue staff to confirm when you visit.
For those with other dietary restrictions, we strongly recommend checking with venues directly to avoid disappointment.
Throughout April 2025, Taste the Place will showcase specials from participating venues. Many will spotlight full-priced dishes and drinks that capture the true essence of the city's diverse food scene. These unique offerings, not usually available on regular menus, will allow you to taste the creativity and passion of small, independent businesses.
We encourage you to follow the different food experiences and continue to discover Glasgow’s culinary gems, even when the official 850 programme has ended. Just make sure to check with the venue directly for an updated menu.
