What's the inspiration behind Eusebi’s Restaurant and Deli?

The Eusebi family is credited as one of the first to bring an authentic taste of Italy to Glasgow after owner Giovanna’s grandparents brought their passion for seasonal Italian produce to the city during World War I.

Giovanna’s grandfather started life in Glasgow as an ice-cream vendor, nicknamed “hokey pokey men” from their cry “Gelati, ecco un poco.”  As for her father, he opened a fruit and vegetable shop with his wife in Shettleston in the early 70’s, selling ‘exotic’ vegetables like mushrooms and peppers.

The family business continued to evolve, with Giovanna’s mum making homemade pasta and hearty meals, which – in the absence of today’s takeaway containers – customers collected in ceramic pots.

From helping her dad, aged just five, Giovanna and her brother, Eddie, have grown the business to its legendary Westend location.  Opening its doors in 2016, Eusebi’s is a benchmark for serving award-winning Italian food, attracting plaudits from locals and high-profile guests alike.

What role does Eusebi’s Restaurant and Deli play in creating a sense of community and belonging?

Eusebi’s original Deli in Shettleston was often described as ‘inspirational’ in the community – particularly in an area renowned for its bad diet and low life expectancy at the time.

Today, Eusebi’s continues to support the wider community by aiding others within the hospitality industry and supporting those who are homeless.
