What does this mean?

What’s it all about?

Founded in 1903, Glickman’s Confectionery is one of Glasgow’s oldest family sweet shops.  Many favourites are still made by hand using traditional recipes from over 100 years ago.

Taste the Place - don’t miss:

Handmade cream tablet, macaroon cake, candy balls and Krispets.  If you’re looking for a taste of nostalgia, the shop also sells soor plooms and fizzy Iron Bru sticks!

What's the inspiration behind Glickman’s Confectionery?

Irene Glickman and Julie Birkett are the granddaughter and great granddaughter of Issac Glickman, founder of Glickman’s Pure Confectionery.  Although little is known about Issac, it’s thought he arrived in Glasgow from Poland to fulfil his ambitions of selling homemade confectionery to locals.  When Issac died, the shop was passed down through the generations.

Having kept Issac’s century old recipes, but with no experience in making sweets, Irene and Julie enrolled on a Sugar and Chocolate course at college.  With help from their tutor, the pair learnt how to recreate Issac’s original recipes, recreating authentic flavours just as they were 100 years ago.  If you pop into the shop, make sure you peek into the back room where you’ll catch a glimpse of the original 160-year-old copper pots, still used to make the sweets today.
