What's the inspiration behind Jeju Baked Goods?
Ameena and her family moved to Scotland from Pakistan to support her sister, Khodeja, who was living with severe disabilities. After graduating from art school, Ameena took the chance to pursue her passion for crafting edible artwork instead and fell in love with bread baking while studying at The School of Artisan Food in 2016.
In December of that year, Khodeja passed away suddenly. The cathartic process of kneading and baking dough, and a strong desire to create a legacy for her sister, nicknamed Jeju, set Ameena’s sights firmly on opening a bakery. From its vibrant colour scheme to a menu filled with her favourite bakes, it’s impossible to miss how Jeju’s reputation as a ray of sunshine has shaped the family business.
If Ameena brings the heart to the bakery, her husband and co-owner Kamal definitely brings the soul, creating light and flaky pastries while serving exceptional coffee and freshly brewed Moroccan mint tea.

Cardamom Buns (Vegan)
£3.20
Inspired by the rich flavours of Pakistani baking, these soft and fragrant buns are infused with warm cardamom and glazed with orange blossom. With the perfect balance of sweetness and spice, they’re a delightful treat alongside chai or coffee.
What role does Jeju Baked Goods play in creating a sense of community and belonging?
Moving to Scotland was a culture shock, but what really stood out to Ameena was the warmth and support shown to her and her family by the local community. “The amount of care and love that they showed Khodeja has been incomparable. Opening Jeju Baked Goods was just a small way for us to say a big thank you.” Ameena Ijiji, Jeju Baked Goods.
Although it’s rare to find anything left by mid-afternoon, the team donate any surplus to their local charity, ‘Al- Khair’, which works in the community by helping low-income families gain access to food and other amenities.
