What's the inspiration behind Ka Ka Lok?
Born in Fujian province, China, Mr Lu moved to Scotland in 1999 after spotting an ad in the local paper to buy a takeaway in Renfrewshire. With 34 years of experience in the Scottish hospitality sector, Mr Lu took on Ka Ka Lok in 2023.
Meaning ‘happiness to all’, Ka Ka Lok offers warm hospitality, with a genuine passion to get to know their guests.
“Taking the time to speak with customers helps us to prepare and cook dishes that best replicate those authentic flavours guests recognise. If a dish isn’t on the menu, given a little notice, we’ll work hard to deliver personalised requests and dietary preferences, ensuring guests enjoy their meals, just like they would in their own homes.” Mr Lu, Ka Ka Lok.

What role does Ka Ka Lok play in creating a sense of community and belonging?
Ka Ka Lok prides itself on having a proactive role in the community, supporting young, elderly and the homeless.
Staying true to the Chinese cultural concept of ‘xiào’, where people owe their elders a duty of care, Ka Ka Lok regularly donates food to local care homes and Glasgow-based housing associations.
The friendly staff at Ka Ka Lok also create an extended ‘family’ network for students new to Glasgow, helping arrivals feel safe and welcomed. Involved with a local homeless charity, Mr Lu offers students the chance to volunteer with the staff. This not only connects students with others, but also provides meaningful ways for them to integrate into Glasgow’s wider community.

Fun fact – did you know?
Ka Ka Lok is a firm favourite with players from Glasgow’s Celtic and Rangers teams.
