As its name suggests, the kimchi is the undeniable star of the show. Try it with anything, from your Bibimbap Bowl to their Kimchi cheese fries.
What's the inspiration behind Kimchi Cult?
Danny and Sarah, the Irish husband-and-Scottish wife team behind Kimchi Cult, met in Glasgow during their studies, before moving to Korea together to teach English. While there, they fell in love with the local street food – so much so that when they returned to the UK, they set up a street food stall devoted to it. And so, in 2011 among the London street food markets, Kimchi Cult was born!
Despite enjoying the vibrant and fast paced lifestyle, Danny and Sarah returned to Glasgow, opening Scotland’s first Korean style fast food sit-in and takeaway in 2015. Kimchi Cult’s extensive menu skilfully showcases the versatility of the fermented favourite that has taken Glasgow’s food scene by storm.
Rest assured, this is no ordinary fast-food joint. Traditionally, Koreans have tried to adhere to an arrangement of five colours in their meals: red, yellow, green, white, and black. These colours are associated with important symbols in Korean culture, representing meanings such as health, abundance, and luck. Serving up handcrafted kimchi, made to a special Jeonju recipe passed down through the generations, Kimchi Cult brings this gastronomic philosophy to our plates in Glasgow.
What role does Kimchi Cult play in creating a sense of community and belonging?
Kimchi Cult has come to represent three things: the tradition of Korean cuisine, the fermentation ‘live culture’ process of kimchi making, and the ‘cult’ like devotion of the growing number of Kimchi lovers! It’s this mentality that has made Kimchi Cult a real destination for likeminded lovers of all things kimchi.

Fun fact – did you know?
Look out for Kimchi Cult’s infamous cabbage, immortalised in the venue’s stained-glass window. It was hand crafted by Sarah’s dad, Douglas Hogg, whose work you can also find in Kibble Palace, Glasgow Botanic Gardens.
