What's the inspiration behind Kofi Kade?
Rukshan arrived in the UK with his mum and sister as a young teenager. Restricted to traveling within Britain, Scotland soon became the family’s favoured ‘home away from home.’ After falling in love with Scotland’s people, Rukshan didn’t think twice about packing up and moving north of the border when the opportunity came up. Fast forward a few years and Rukshan and his partner Lisa launched Kofi Kade in 2024, after spotting a gap in the market for Sri Lankan influenced cuisine.
Meaning “coffee shop” in Sinhalese, Kofi Kade offers a chance for those keen to try authentic Sri Lankan flavours on the go. Made fresh to order, these experimental sandwich fillings are guaranteed to pack a flavoursome punch! The team also have a growing range of sauces from Rukshan’s Sri Lankan condiment business, with Kofi Kade original chilli sauce available from the shop.
For those who aren’t big fans of chilli, rest assured you’ll be in safe hands at Kofi Kade. The team guarantee to tame the fieriest of condiments with innovative homemade mayonnaises, including kiwi and raspberry (yes, kiwi and raspberry)!

What role does Kofi Kade play in creating a sense of community and belonging?
A relative newcomer to Glasgow, Rukshan recognises the importance of its customers and takes meaningful steps to create purposeful change in the wider community. During their first month, they donated £80 of supplies to local social enterprise, Milk Café. And that’s just the beginning! Rukshan plans to continue working with local charities in a way that can best support their needs.
