What's the inspiration behind MacTassos?
Recognising the importance of family life after losing his first wife 20 years ago, Tasso decided to move to Glasgow in 2013 from Rhodes, to support his children through their studies. After initially planning to return to Greece, ten years later Tasso and his multi-award-wining food-truck, MacTassos, have become permanent fixtures in the city.
Struggling to find authentic gyros when he first arrived in Glasgow, Tasso spotted a business opportunity. So, with support from his second wife, Caron, the pair set about filling that gap – and have been supplying the city with Greek cuisine ever since 2017! MacTassos’ warmth and generosity radiates through their delicious gyros, Greek salads, and syrup-soaked baklava.
A nod to Tasso’s son Vangelis joining the business in 2019 can be found in the name, MacTassos – with ‘Mac’ meaning ‘son of’ in Scottish. MacTassos’ rise in popularity saw the pair open a second venue in 2020 and third in 2024.
