Taste the Place - don’t miss:

The star dish is injeraa spongy flatbread used as either the base or torn into bite-sized pieces and then used to scoop up flavoursome stews.  We also recommend the doro wat, a spiced chicken stew, and the vegetarian platter.

What's the inspiration behind Mosob Bar and Restaurant?

In the early 2000s, Hewi, Elen and Genet made the difficult decision to leave their homeland of Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, due to political instability.  Their journey brought them to Glasgow as refugees, in search of safety and a new beginning.

Over the years, their friendship deepened, providing a foundation of mutual support and solidarity as they navigated the challenges of rebuilding their lives in a new country.  Settling in, it became clear that they, like many others from the growing Eritrean and Ethiopian community, missed the vibrant flavours of home.

Recognising a gap in the market, the three friends took a leap of faith in 2022, opening Mosob Bar and Restaurant.  The venue offers authentic dishes passed down through generations as well as a space for people to gather and celebrate East African culture.  From Mosob’s spicy stews to traditional coffee ceremonies, the goal is to bring a little piece of East Africa into the heart of Glasgow’s city centre.

What role does Mosob Bar and Restaurant play in creating a sense of community and belonging?

“Mosob” is the name of a beautifully woven basket used to hold injera.  It is central to the restaurant’s experience of savouring the richness of traditional African cuisine while symbolising unity and togetherness.

The response from the East African and wider Glasgow community has been incredible. “Eating together is more than just sharing a meal, it’s about cooking together as a community, forging connections, and celebrating our shared humanity.”  Elen Mehari, Mosob Bar and Restaurant.
