What's the inspiration behind Sushi Riot?

Growing up in Malaysia watching and helping his mum cooking, Leong knew from a young age that he wanted to become a professional chef.  So, it was no surprise when Leong enrolled on a catering and hospitality apprenticeship as a Japanese chef in Singapore.

After gaining over ten years’ experience in the industry, Leong moved to the UK, seeking a change of pace from the busy Singapore lifestyle.  His journey led him to Glasgow where he met his future wife, Anna.  She recalls, “In 2009 my sister and I set up Wudon, an authentic pan-Asian restaurant in the city’s west end, and we were looking for a Japanese chef.  Leong had all the skills we were looking for, and the rest, as they say, is history.”  Anna Chew, Sushi Riot.

Over time, Leong transformed Wudon’s menu, introducing exciting new flavours and ideas, including sushi.   Eventually, the pair turned their attention towards running their own business, and in 2021 Sushi Riot was born.  Since then, they’ve been offering Glaswegians much-loved sushi with a warm, friendly service.
