Taste the Place - don’t miss:
The top selling crème brûlée doughnut – a Madagascan vanilla custard filled brioche doughnut with a crunchy torched sugar top, or the salted honey ring, topped with a sprinkling of Ayrshire Blackthorn Salt.
What's the inspiration behind Tantrum Doughnuts?
Annika and Iain are the dynamic wife and husband duo behind Tantrum Doughnuts. Annika has always had a keen interest in food, with cooking playing a central role in bringing her large Maltese family together, whereas Iain inherited his passion from his parents.
After nearly a decade of working in hospitality, the pair sought a change of pace, dreaming of owning their own food business. With limited funds and experience, they started small, settling on the idea of crafting one product well – doughnuts.
And you can taste their commitment to quality in each bake. Everything is made from scratch – from the dough to fillings, toppings and glazes, customers can choose between signature yeast-raised brioche, cakey old fashioneds and vegan rings.
Selling out at local markets and seeing the appetite for their range grow, Annika and Iain left their full-time jobs, borrowed a mixer and raided their meagre savings to buy a fryer. In 2015, they opened the first Tantrum Doughnuts on Old Dumbarton Road. Unwavering support since then has enabled their family run business to grow to a further two sites.

What role does Tantrum Doughnuts play in creating a sense of community and belonging?
Tantrum Doughnuts donate any leftover doughnuts to local charities, limiting waste whilst supporting those in need. They also play an important role in encouraging young adults to consider a career in hospitality. Annika and Iain work in partnership with local schools offering visits to their bakery. “Encouraging young adults to get hands on experience, while familiarising themselves with the baking process feels like a great way to inspire our next generation of professional bakers.” Annika Baillie, Tantrum Doughnuts.
