What's the inspiration behind Toshie’s Community Café?

Managing Director Dale spent his early career in London in investment banking.  He quit in 2018 in search of new, purpose-led opportunities to fulfil his ultimate goal of doing good in the world.

Dale founded The Courtyard Pantry Enterprise in 2022 with the purpose of tackling poverty in Glasgow, using food as vehicle for change.  Toshie’s opened in January 2023 with the purpose of creating employment opportunities for those facing barriers to the job market and creating a welcoming space for the community to spend time in.

What role does Toshie’s Community Café play in creating a sense of community and belonging?

Not only does Toshie’s offer good quality, locally sourced, affordable food, it’s designed to bring members of the wider community together, particularly those who are at risk of isolation or disadvantage.  The cafe also provides volunteering, training, and work experience for locals who experience barriers to securing employment.

“In less than a year we’ve doubled our team and provided over 16,000 hours of work experience at real living wage.”  Dale Todd, The Courtyard Pantry Enterprise.

Dale encourages everyone to pay the cafe a visit to learn more about what they do.  “Buying a coffee, snack, or meal at Toshie’s equates to so much more than spending in a multinational coffee chain on the high street.  Every penny we generate is reinvested into local projects that directly help the Glasgow community we serve.”  Dale Todd, The Courtyard Pantry Enterprise
